Artist Statement:
I lecture at a local art college, teaching life Drawings and ceramics. It is very important to maintain my studio practice and show my work on the Web and in galleries and shows. I have exhibited in London, the USA and most recently Korea where I won an Honourable Mention. I have been published in the Lark book '500 Animals in Clay' in Autumn 2006. I am a member of the Northern Potters , an associate member ofthe Craft Potters Association and have my own studio practice.
My process of working is intensive sketchbook work before building the sculptures in a range of scales. Using Harry Frazer porcelain the work is coiled, pinched and slabbed. The work is stoneware fired (1260ºc) with black oxides to create a drawn surface akin to 9B graphite or charcoal.
The inspiration for my current work is the Willendorf Venus (30,000 BC).
